Oh, the plots we weave …
As some of you know, I am totally addicted to TV. Seriously, I watch waaay too many programs every week, and one of my favorites is Gossip Girl. Now, this year hasn’t been as good as previous years — until the writers decided to hook up rich bitch Blair with Brooklyn boy Dan.
I am love-love-loving this pairing. Why? Well, for one thing, Blair and Dan have never liked each other, but they’ve slowly become friends this year based on their mutual love of movies and art. It’s been fun to watch them inch toward each other. They’ve always been two of the nicest and most loyal characters on the show — Blair with Chuck (who is an ass most of the time), and Dan with Serena (who is flighty and selfish most of the time). I like the idea that Blair and Dan could be loyal to and happy with each other for a change.
But really, it’s the plot that’s got me hooked because it’s an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers plot. Romance readers and authors talk about plots all the time — the secret-baby plot, the friends-to-lovers plot, the second-chance-at-love plot.
There are tons of them out there, but one of my favorites is the friends-to-lovers plot. Why? Because I think it’s one of the most realistic plots. Love (or lust) at first sight is great, but to me, there’s something magical about watching or reading about two people becoming friends, then realizing their feelings have turned into something more. It just makes me sigh with happiness every single time.
This is probably why I’m also addicted to romantic comedies and all those cheesy TV holiday movies — because so many of them feature the friends-to-lovers plot or a modern-day variation of the marriage-of-convenience plot, which is another one of my favorites.
So I’m rooting for you, Blair and Dan. May your friendship turn into something more. Even if it doesn’t last, I think it will be entertaining to watch. I just wish it was April and Gossip Girl was back from its spring break already …
What about you guys? Which TV shows are you digging? Which plots do you love?
OHHH, Blair and Dan!! I am about a season behind on Gossip Girl, so how exciting! I never get to watch the episodes, so I end up buying the seasons on DVD. I also love NCIS and guilty pleasure, Jersey Shore!
Oops! I didn’t mean to spoil it for you. Sorry about that. I love NCIS too and the LA spinoff.
I’m behind on Gossip Girl but not surprised they went there with Blair and Dan they are one of the last sets of people that haven’t yet dated, now I think Serena and Chuck are the only ones who have never dated! A guilty pleasure is 90210 the new one, Vampire Diaries LOVE IT! Also Bones, I want Booth and Bones together its been six seasons of lead up and these two are still not together! I love TV shows, I watch wayy to many for it to be healthy!
Yeah, I figured they would do Dan and Blair at some point. In fact, I’m kind of surprised that it’s taken them this long. And I think you’re right about Chuck and Serena too. Maybe they’ll hook them up next year. LOL.
I keep meaning to get the first season of Vampire Diaries on DVD. Everyone seems to love that show …
I don’t have a regular series anymore since Lost ended. Mostly I watch House Hunters, Say Yes to the Dress, What Not to Wear, Iron Chef America, and Throwdown with Bobby Flay. My guilty pleasure was once Dawson’s Creek. It had that childhood sweetheart element that I love in shows and also in books. By the way, I did not like Joey’s choice at the end. Argh! Another show I miss is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was a darn good show. Loved Spike!
I loved Lost … right up until the finale, which I thought was a mess. I love Throwdown too — I am totally addicted to the Food Network. LOL.
I miss Buffy/Spike too, although it’s been fun seeing James Marsters on Smallville, Hawaii Five-O, and all the other shows he’s done …
I tried Gossip Girl but after the first 15 mins of the first episode, I remember just turning it off. I had thought that it would be something I would really enjoy since I’ve heard such good reviews about it, but it didn’t appeal to me so some strange reason.
I’m currently addicted to The Good Wife right now. I love it. Please tell me you watch it so I can have someone that I can talk to about it!
Oh, I love The Good Wife! I think it’s one of the best shows on TV right now. Although I have to say that I’m a little tired of the Cary hates Alicia storyline and Kalinda vs. Blake, although that was a really good twist with Kalinda and Peter last week …
