When Darkness Falls calendar by Tony Mauro …
So I was perusing through the calendars at my local Books-A-Million a few weeks ago looking for holiday presents, when I spotted a name that I knew on one of the calendars — Tony Mauro.
Tony is a well-known fantasy artist who (among many other things) creates books covers, including those for my Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series. Curious, I picked up Tony’s When Darkness Falls calendar and turned it over.
And what do I see but the cover art for Heart of Venom, Elemental Assassin #9, featured in the calendar. Woot! Woot! Gin is featured during the month of October.
I thought this was super-cool, and I e-mailed Tony about it. According to Tony, he’s been creating the fantasy art calendars for about eight years now.
If you order the calendar through his website (as the above photo says), Tony will sign it for you. Again, how cool is that? I always buy a couple of calendars for Christmas, so if you’re looking for a holiday gift for someone, this would make a pretty neat one. The calendars are $13.95, plus shipping and handling.
The calendars are also available at retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million. But please note that those calendars are not signed by Tony.

Tony has generously offered up a signed copy of When Darkness Falls for giveaway, and I’m including a print copy of Heart of Venom, along with some bookmarks and other swag. You can enter using the form below. The giveaway is open to those 18 and older, U.S. only, and will run through midnight, EST, Thursday, Dec. 5.
That’s awesome! He does great artwork.
oops. It hit submit too soon. LOL
I like the artwork for the EA series, Mercy Thompson series by Briggs, and even though I’ve not read it yet Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas has come great covers.
I think Tony has done a great job on the Elemental Assassin covers. I believe he does the covers for Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series too, among many others.
I love the unused Gin in his portfolio. It doesn’t look much like her in the face and she has a sheathed knife on her belt instead of the small of her back – but the artwork itself is awesome.
That is one AWESOME calendar that I most have 🙂 !
Love Tony’s artwork, his work is gorgeous.
l absolutely love his artwork! And I just realized how many different series I read that he has done covers for too!!!
Boris Vallejo has beautiful fantasy art. I don’t watch a lot of TV and there are so many excellent authors that it is to hard to choose just one.
I love your Elemental Assassin’s books! Sarcasm is a way of life in my family; which is probably part of the reason why I love Gin and Finn so much! Plus the idea of how the elements are used in your stories create a sense of awe. I love them. 🙂 Thank you for this opportunity!
I think my fave is Dan Dos Santos especially for covers, but there are so many good fantasy artists out there. Check out Muddy Colors (https://muddycolors.blogspot.com/) to see how they come up with the art.
Dunno whether Dutch artist Handiedan’s work is considered fantasy, but I just purchased her latest release from Spoke Art. That aside, after checking out Tony’s galleries, I realized that I dig his work too, especially the film adverts.
I feel like I never get to fully enjoy the covers on my black and white Kindle. A calendar is a great idea!
Wow, this is such a great giveaway and I will be checking out his calendar as gifts for my friends (but hope I get this one).
I love the artwork on the book covers of the Books of the Order fantasy series (books by Philippa Ballantine). They capture the heart of the story and are beautiful.
We need more calendars like this! I love this sort of artwork and theme!
Yay for contest and calendar! I just bought a copy but is hoping to win!!!!
The first time I was ever blown away by fantasy art was when a then fiance showed me a book of art by Boris Vallejo and I have loved fantasy art ever since. I purchased an affordable print poster of the Daniel Dos Santos cover for Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs. The Elemental Assassin series covers have been spectacular. I wish I could find some of these covers in the same format. The framed prints make excellent additions to my library wall.
I would.love the calander. Thank you for the oppurtunity to try and win
Beautiful calendars. I also buy a couple calendars every year – one for home and one for work.

I was blown away by the calendar. Would love it to hang up in my home.
What a beautiful calendar! We as a society need to celebrate complicated, strong, kick-ass women!
Sweet, I haven’t picked out a calendar for next year yet.
Ohh, that’s awesome! The calendar looks gorgeous! I love this style and I can imagine that the calendar will hangs on my wall long after 2014! 🙂
I always loved Boris Vallejo and many of the artists in the magazine Heavy Metal (in the 1970’s). I do love Tony Mauro’s art too, and the calendar looks awesome.
