A few thoughts on Widow’s Web …
Widow’s Web, the seventh book in my Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series, will be out on Aug. 21. I’ve gotten some questions about the book, especially about how the title might or might not relate to Gin and Owen, so I thought I would share a few (vague) thoughts about it.
Please note that this post does contain some mild spoilers and hints about the book and future books in the series. So if you absolutely don’t want to know anything about the book before you read it, you may want to skip this post.
Well, I guess the first thing I should say is this: I do something in this book that some folks are probably not going to like. I’m not going to talk about exactly what it is, but you’ll know when you read it.
So why did I do this thing? Well, I thought it was necessary for the story, and it lets me kick off another story arc that I wanted to explore. After the book has been out for a while and folks have had a chance to read it, I’ll try to do a post talking a little more in-depth about the story and the decisions that I made about it and the characters.
In the meantime, I’m asking that folks be patient and wait for the story to play out. I know it’s hard, especially since the next book, Deadly Sting, probably won’t be out until April 2013, but I’m still asking. So … pretty please?
I’m also asking folks to keep in mind that Widow’s Web is not the end of the series. There will be at least three more Elemental Assassin books after this one, and the things that happen in Widow’s Web will continue to play out over the next few books.
I know this post sounds like a giant tease for the book, but that’s really all I can say about the story, etc. right now. I try to avoid giving out spoilers just so folks who don’t like spoilers don’t accidentally stumble across them. However, I did want to give everyone a heads-up about the story in the book. So this is my way of doing that.
Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys the book when it comes out. Happy reading!
Uh oh…I hope you didn’t break Gin and Owen up or a lot of us aren’t going to be happy!
We trust your judgement Jennifer and the life you bring to our favorite characters…mainly because we don’t have a choice! haha.
Can’t wait to see what’s to come with everyone at the Pork Pit!
Again, I can’t say too much, but I did want folks to know that I have a plan. Anyway, glad you are looking forward to the book.
Widow’s Web is next on my TBR list and I can’t wait!!
Cool. Hope you enjoy the book. Happy reading.
This doesn’t sound good… I hope Owen doesn’t die in this novel. If the bad thing is Owen and Gin breaking up, I can handle it. But Owen dying… D: that’s something else altogether. Anyway, I trust your judgment, Jennifer, and I’m sure I’ll like Widow’s Web 😀
Well, I can’t say too much about what happens, but I did want people to know that I do have a plan.
Thanks. I appreciate that, and I hope you enjoy the book.
Please let that be a reference to a breakup, not a death… As soon as I saw the title of the next book and kind of thought about the trajectory of the series as a whole, I admittedly started freaking out a bit. Especially given that a) Gin has finally accepted Owen’s place in her life and all seems somewhat stable and b) the flashbacks of Fletcher teaching her that she doesn’t really need anyone. Sounds like the recipe for a tragedy 🙁
I know, some things are necessary for character development and to advance the series plot, but… let’s just say I’ll still keep hoping right up until the book comes out and we know for sure!
Well, I can’t say too much, and I try not to give out too many spoilers, which is why I wanted to let folks know that I do have something in mind.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the book when it comes out.
OMG Jennifer now you have me worried, I knew I shouldn’t have read this post lol I have faith in you ^_^ Can’t wait for Widow’s Web to come out, I know I will devour the book just so I know what you were talking about
Thanks. I appreciate that. I’m glad you are looking forward to the book.
I’m in like Flint! Supplies needed: book, tissues, comfy couch, and patience for next book.
Since everyone is speculating like crazy, here’s what my crystal ball says…
Gin gets pregnant! The double coverage did not work. She can’t work at the Pork Pit anymore due to the food odors combined with morning sickness, and assassin work is hard with a baby bump. The Deadly Sting is shopping for a minivan.
Am I close? he he he I kid! I kid!
I think that sounds like an excellent supply list. LOL. Well, I think I can confirm that Gin is not pregnant. Anyway, hope you enjoy the book when it comes out.
GAAAAAAAAHH!!! I can’t take the stress! Just when things are settling in nicely…now this!! I don’t know want to even think what it all might be, but just so you know Jennifer…I can’t hear you *fingers in ears* lalalalalalalala!
Gin’s life is never easy, is it? LOL. But I think she’d be a lot less fun to write and read about if that was the case. Hope you enjoy the book when it comes out.
If you are being honest I have to be. I will have to wait and see, but I have to admit if the title is that descriptive then likely I will not finish the series. It is the sort of thing that has been done so much lately it has just gotten really tiring to me.
I also have to admit that while it is unfair to judge you by another writer the last one that said they had a plan turned into an utter train wreck. Another worked out fine, but I really don’t find that hopeful. Call it gun shy, but I’ve just gotten really tired of it all. I can understand an author may feel a story needs to go in a direction, I just may be too tired of it from other books to follow.
I understand. I used to read a series with a love triangle, but I finally quit reading it because I got tired of the triangle and it didn’t seem like there was ever going to be any resolution to it.
Anyway, I just wanted to give folks a heads-up.
