Bonding again …
This James Bond tidbit is courtesy my friend Super Librarian Amy:
Alicia Keys and Jack White will sing the theme song for the upcoming Bond movie, Quantum of Solace. The song will be called Another Way to Die. There’s a little more info here on CNN.
Thanks for the heads-up, Amy! 😎
This is an interesting musical pairing, and I’m curious as to what the song will sound like — and if it will actually have the words quantum of solace in it. I’m guessing no. Hard to rhyme something with solace.
Of course, the best Bond theme song is the James Bond Theme. A close second is Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon. I also like Diamonds Are Forever by Shirley Baasey, For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton, and The World Is Not Enough by Garbage. Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is cool too, although technically it’s not a theme song (it’s from the movie Thunderball).
After that, well, some of the songs get downright ridiculous, like the aforementioned Thunderball. I have no idea what that song is supposed to be about, but Tom Jones does an impressive job holding the last note for what seems like forever.Â
What about you? What’s your favorite Bond song or movie? Share in the comments.
Like you, I think the 007 Theme is probably the best piece of music from the James Bond movies. After that, it’s a toss-up between “Nobody Does It Better” and “Goldfinger” by Shirley Bassey, followed by “A View To A Kill” by Duran Duran.
I’ll go with “Live and Let Die” Though I will say that I may like the Guns N’ Roses cover better than the orginal Paul McCartney version.
PurpleRanger — Shirley Bassey’s definitely got the pipes, but Goldfinger is another one of the songs that I just don’t understand. It doesn’t seem to make much sense. Neither does Moonraker.
Sometimes, the Bond producers just need to forget about using the title in the song.
Brian — I’m pretty ambivalent about Live and Let Die. Not the best to me, not the worst. But that’s probably because that’s one of my least favorite Bond movies.
I didn’t know G&R had covered it though. I may have to check that out …
