Checking out the e-TBR pile …

So I have a shiny new tablet/e-reader now, which I really like. And one of the best things about the tablet is that I can now read e-books.

Y’all. Downloading e-books is totally addictive. The books! The sales! The money I’m saving!

Okay, okay, so maybe that last one isn’t quite true, since I could easily download e-books until the cows come home. LOL. But it is really tempting to download an e-book for a couple of bucks … even if I still have about 30 print books in my TBR pile. So far, I’ve been pretty good about sticking to my budget. I only download a new e-book after I’ve read one that’s either on my tablet or one of the print ones in my TBR pile.

Today, I thought I would share some of the books waiting in my e-TBR pile. Note that the descriptions are from Goodreads:

I saw this book reviewed over at Supernatural Snark a few weeks ago. It sounds like a cute, contemporary, new adult read.

    The majority of the ebooks on my nook are from the Freebie Friday titles and special promos. It’s so easy to download that I have to really watch myself to make sure I don’t go overboard. Love your idea of having to read a physical book before downloading an ebook! Enjoy all of your new reads! 🙂

      Yep, I’ve been looking at more and more e-book sales online too. Even if I’ve read something before, if it’s like 99 cents, I’ll add it to my digital collection, especially if I really enjoyed it.

    I am an ebook FAN… The other day I was reading a paperback book for a review, and I found that I just didn’t want to pick it up as much. Not because of the content, but because I find so many things I prefer about the Kindle over paper.

    I have a lot of Freebies on my kindle, plus first books in series that were recommend to me, and I just haven’t found the time to start them. I also have purchased a few novellas and such from series I like, but haven’t read them yet, either.

      I still like paper books too, and I find that I’m buying an equal number of paper and e-books. One thing that I’ve been enjoying is reading all the e-novellas that tie-in to various series. The e-reader is definitely good for that.

    I only buy hard copies of series I’ve collected from the very beginning. Not because I don’t love the printed work but due to space. My e-reader was a gift from the Guy so I took the hint about physical books being EVERYWHERE.
    My reader is loaded with over 800 books. I finally did a spreadsheet to jog my memory on them. I make notes so I know which ones I want to read next, ones I couldn’t finish etc.
    Yeah, I’m a book Nerd.

      That’s a lot of books! I don’t feel so bad about my own TBR piles now. LOL.

      I still buy paper books for the ones I know I want to put on my keeper shelf or that I want to share with my mom.

    I would be lost without my Kindle… but be careful with the freebies, I just spent 2 months deleting thousands of freebies from my Amazon account, just so I could easily find the books I actually planned to read.

    As for my TBR list.. it’s very long. The TBR shelf on GoodReads is around 1150. I do love the kindle daily deals and awesome sales, and before my Kindle I was so very far behind on reading.

    My immediate TBR list.. finishing Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series.. then Guillermo Del Toro’s Strain trilogy, some Jennifer Armentrout books, Stacey Marie Brown’s Dwellers of Darkness.. and hopefully I’ll fit some of your books in there before I start rereading Anne Rice to prepare for Prince Lestat’s release later this year.

      Yeah, it is tempting to download freebies and all the 99-cent books. So far, I’ve been sticking with authors/series that I know, and I have managed to figure out how to organize them into collections on my tablet.

    I don’t value e-books in the same way that I do paper ones with the result that there is a quite a low limit to what I will pay for them. I still want paper copies to display and re-read, admire the covers etc. The e-reader just can’t match up IMHO. But, where the e-reader really scores is via Special Deals – I try out all manner of random reads through the daily 99p offer on the kindle for example – so my variety of reading has grown massively and includes authors I just wouldn’t have found. Finally, on holiday the e-reader is probably the best thing to appear since SPF30 – I used to fear running out of books on a two week break – now I could be away for 6 months and my e-TBR pile would barely shrink.

      If it’s something that I want to read immediately, I will pay a higher price for it — I recently spent $10 for a fantasy e-book — but I’ve been sticking mostly to sales so far.

      I’m definitely taking it on vacation just for the reason you said. I can load it up with books and not have to worry about finishing them all before I come back home.

    There’s a site called ereaderiq where you can track the prices of ebooks. I love this site because if there’s an ebook that you want (but don’t need to read right away) you can track it and when the price is discounted you’ll get an email alert letting you know. You can track all books by a specific author or just individual books. I’ve gotten a lot of good deals on books / authors that I love. I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing because I’m saving money, but on the other hand if there’s a big discount on a series (example I got all Vicki Pettersson’s Signs of the Zodiac books for .99 each recently) I end up buying more 🙂 The site will even tell you if the deal is good or if you should wait for a bigger discount. Pretty helpful if you’re trying to save.

      But yeah, I can see how that would be dangerous. I would be really tempted to buy whole series at one time, even though I already have all those other books in my TBR pile. LOL.
