Prime time decisions …

So most of the new fall TV shows have premiered now, and I’m deciding what to give a season pass to and what to give up on.

Of the new shows, I’m enjoying The Mentalist and Privileged the most. I also think Valentine is cute, but I doubt it will last the season since the viewership is so low (which makes me sad). So those are the new shows I’m going to keep watching.

My Own Worst Enemy is okay, but I like Christian Slater better as the bad-ass character than the regular family man. I’ll probably watch a few more episodes to see if it gets better. Fringe didn’t really hook me, and I didn’t care for The Ex List at all. Those two have already gotten scratched off my schedule.

Of the returning shows, I’m still absolutely loving Gossip Girl and Chuck — both are just excellent every single week. I’d also forgotten how much campy fun Dirty Sexy Money is (it’s like a grown-up version of GG).

But some of my old favorites are starting to feel, well, just old. My Name Is Earl and Grey’s Anatomy haven’t wowed me at all this year. Seriously, does there have to be some sort of external crisis every single week on Grey’s? First, it was the car wreck, and then the busted water pipe, and this week, it looks like it’s some super-duper surgery.

I think Heroes has gotten a little better (I love Daphne the speedster character). But Robert Forster doesn’t seem to have much personality as Papa Petrelli, and they killed David Anders off last week (or at least reduced him to a pile of ash). Why couldn’t they have offed Mohinder instead? I would have been much happier to see him go than Sark. Sigh.

Ah, well. I’ll keep watching — for now. :rolleyes:

    I haven’t really fallen in love with any new show this fall. Besides Gossip Girl, which I can’t rave about enough, I have been pleased with Desperate Housewives. The jump of five years was a big move for the series — it could have been a disaster. So far I’m really enjoying the ride and the new mystery involving Neil McDonough, who I loved in Boomtown, has got me hooked.

    I know you haven’t it seen it yet, but I’m so glad that Friday Night Lights is back. I just wish that some crazy crossover could occur that would allow Tim Riggins to meet Chuck Bass.

    Also I finally got Jinx. I’ve just got started reading it, so I’m sure I’ll have some questions later on.

    I’m still watching Gossip Girl. Love, love, love that show. Ah Chuck and Blair. Chuck’s pulling the strings now and I love it!

    I’m still truckin’ along with Grey’s Anatomy. It’s had it’s moments this season. I’m glad to see Mer and Der are finally working through their crap. Those two just about drove me crazy. It’s not as good as season 1 or 2, but I’ll keep on watching.

    I’ve been watching Private Practice more out of habit than anything. It’s ok. I can watch it if there’s nothing else on.

    Heroes is really good this season. I’m liking it much better than last season. Mohinder has really bothered me this season.

    We’ve been watching Fringe. Nothing else is really on that night so we tend to watch it. Can’t say I really like it. Dunham or w/e her name is gets on my nerves. But I do love Pacey though. (Yes I know he’s not Pacey, but to me he will always be Pacey.)

    Starter Wife is back on this season. I’ve been watching it, but can’t say that I’m too impressed.

    And that’s about it. Gary tends to DVR a bunch of paranormal ghost hunting shows. I’ll watch those from time to time.

    Brian — Nope, no Direct TV for me, so I’ve got to wait until February for FNL. But everyone seems to be happy with the new season of FNL. And a Tim and Chuck bromance would be hysterical. 😎

    Chasity — I’m with you. I’m glad Mer and Der are together, but Grey’s just isn’t as good as it used to be. I’m so over the crisis of the week.

    Heroes has been up and down for me. Love Daphne and Parkman. Hate Mohinder.

    I’ve been enjoying Starter Wife. I also watched Crusoe. Pirates, yargh! Sort of reminds me of Xena, but not as good.

    We’ve dropped Fringe and probably won’t watch Sanctuary, although we did try the first and second eps of both. My Own Worst Enemy might not make it for us, either. There seems to be NO REASON for the convoluted premise to exist.

    I already mentioned one friend’s take on THE MENTALIST in a previous entry. I think he nailed it with his assessment.

    I’ve also been watching the new KNIGHT RIDER. I’m just hoping that it will last long enough for them to have David Hasselhoff and the original KITT appear in a couple of episodes.

    Jody — Yeah, I know what you mean about Enemy. Why doesn’t Edward just *pretend* to be Henry? He’s a spy. One would think he would be smart enough to do that without having a chip in his brain do it for him. :rolleyes:

    PurpleRanger — I watched the first few episodes of Knight Rider. I thought it was okay and entertaining enough, but not something I had to watch every week like Gossip Girl. I’ll catch KR if I remember, but it’s just not “appointment TV” for me right now.

    How great was it seeing Willa Holland last night on Gossip Girl? She was so good on The OC as Kaitlin Cooper, and I hope she is going to be in more episodes.

    I loved the scenes with Chuck and Blair last night. They want each other so much, but the writers are doing a great job not taking the story to fast. In the end I want Chuck and Blair to be together — But I want them to drag it out for a long time if it means more scenes like we got last night.

    Brian — I had to tape GG so I haven’t watched it yet. But overall, I think Ed Westwisk and Leighton Meester have done a fantastic job as C&B this year. They totally make the show for me.
