Too much TV …
I have a confession to make — I watch way too much TV. Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Heroes, CSI, Project Runway … I watch all those shows and about a dozen more on a regular basis.
My TV addiction doesn’t leave me much time to write and do writing-related things in the evenings. Which I need to start doing more and more of as my publication date creeps closer.Â
I just can’t seem to tear myself away from my programs. And I’ve liked just about every new show I’ve watched this year, which adds to my conundrum.
Yes, it’s definitely time to cut back on the TV. I just don’t know where to start. I need help. Serious help. Here are the programs I watch and the new ones I want to keep watching, in no particular order:
Desperate Housewives, Without a Trace, Prison Break, How I Met Your Mother, Heroes, CSI: Miami, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, NCIS, Veronica Mars, Smith, Lost, Project Runway, My Name is Earl, Ugly Betty, CSI, Grey’s Anatomy. I’m also going to give Friday Night Lights and 30 Rock a chance when they premiere.
Which ones would you give up? Which ones would you keep? What about you? Has the boob tube taken over your life lately? Inquiring minds want to know …
I have had the same problem. It got to the point I was watching so many programs that I really wasn’t enjoying them. So I made a list of my favorite five shows that I would never miss, and then I started dropping shows. Right now my can’t miss shows are Veronica Mars, The Wire, Lost, Gilmore Girls, and Battlestar Galactica.
Based on your schedule I would drop CSI, CSI: Miami, Without a Trace, NCIS, and Smith. The first three shows because they will be in reruns forever. Miss CSI now — Catch up in 2020.
I still watch too much TV, but remember we are living in the golden age of the TV drama.
I would say my five favorites right now are Veronica Mars, Prison Break, How I Met Your Mother, My Name is Earl, and Grey’s Anatomy. I’m definitely keeping those. Project Runway, too, since it’s going off in two more weeks and won’t be back until late spring.
I think I’ll drop NCIS and one of the CSIs. And I’m really temped to drop Lost. I hated the whole hatch thing last year. They totally jumped the shark. The first season with the focus on the castaways and just surviving was much better. Now, it seems like the hidden clues and the Internet games and the weird commercials are more important to the actual show that’s on TV.
I really just need to stop watching shows that come on at the same time, like CSI: Miami and Studio 60. I so need to get a Tivo … or another VCR …
